UAE launches $1 million Food Technology Challenge

Dubai A $1 million Food Technology Challenge has been launched to achieve food security in the UAE, turning it into a leading global hub for food security. The seven-month Food Technology Challenge, the world’s largest food security programme, was launched yesterday (Monday) by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The $1 million prize will be given to four winners who will find solutions to the agricultural and food sectors through food value chains. The winners will be announced in April 2020.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday launched the Global Food Technology Challenge. The competition is the largest of its kind that seeks to develop innovative solutions for food production and management in the UAE. The Challenge was launched in the presence of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The Global Food Technology Challenge aims to use advanced technologies and efficient tools and techniques to overcome the challenges of the agricultural sector and achieve sustainable food production in the UAE.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Monday launched the Global Food Technology Challenge. The competition is the largest of its kind that seeks to develop innovative solutions for food production and management in the UAE. The $1 million prize money of the Challenge will be divided among four winners. A high-level jury consisting of international experts in technology, economy and sustainability will evaluate submissions and select the best projects in terms of efficiency, creativity, and project scalability. The winners will be announced in April 2020.

Panel of expert judges announced for the FoodTech Challenge

UAE Office of State for Food Security and Tamkeen, an Abu Dhabi-based company mandated to deliver projects to meet the UAE’s vision of knowledgebased development, are pleased to announce the appointment of thirteen UAE-based and international expert judges selected across research, academia, industry, and policy. The final awards ceremony will take place at NYU Abu Dhabi in April 2020, and will also feature Danielle Nierenberg, Co-Founder and President of FoodTank and David Rosenberg, Co-Founder and CEO of AeroFarms as part of the judging panel.

FoodTech Challenge introduced to UAE University students

As part of the roadshow to raise awareness for the recently unveiled FoodTech Challenge, a student workshop was hosted at the UAE University (UAEU). Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai – the FoodTech Challenge is an initiative of the UAE Office of State for Food Security in partnership with Tamkeen, an Abu Dhabi-based company mandated to deliver projects to meet the UAE’s vision of knowledge-based development.

The UAE Calls for Innovative Ideas in Finding Solutions to Global Food Security Challenges

On the occasion of World Food Day, marked at the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, UAE Minister for State for Food Security, spoke to the significance of global food security challenges and their impact on future generations. Appealing to university students, early-stage start-ups and tech incubators in advanced urban farming markets from around the world, the Minister revealed plans by the UAE government to foster international collaboration to find innovative solutions across the food value chain through an open call-for-submissions to the “FoodTech Challenge.”

UAE Government Opens Registration for Global FoodTech Challenge today

The UAE Government today opened registration for the FoodTech Challenge today – an innovation-based food production contest launched recently by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Organized by the Food Security Office, in partnership with Tamkeen, applications to the competition can be submitted through www.foodtechchallenge.com.
